Celebrating Imbolc

Hello friends,

Today, on the Wiccan calendar, we celebrate Imbolc. We are entering my favorite part of the year. It's the time of the year that the Goddess is beginning to wake up from her sleep through the winter. At Samhain we put the Goddess to rest for the year after the last harvest, she sleeps through the dark months and on February 2nd the year takes a turn towards the sun and The Earth begins to wake up. We inch closer and closer to the sun, bringing on the warmer months and the harvests for the year.

Imbolc, or Candlemas, is the first celebration of light on the calendar. We celebrate the first peeks of spring and we can feel The Earth changing course and getting warmer. Even though the flowers haven't sprung up yet, there is a sense that we are close. There's something in the air that reminds us and gives us the hope of spring. The Goddess is stretching and yawning beneath the soil, letting her roots spread across the land and preparing herself for her grand entrance symbolized by the reemergence of the flowers, animals and warmth of spring. It's our prize for making it through the harsh winter.

Imbolc, being the midpoint between winter and spring, is a great time to dust away the old from the year's past and prepare for the continuing of the new year. Cleansing and decorating your space is a wonderful activity to welcome the coming of spring and the beginnings of your 'new life'. It is a perfect time to also plan your garden for the year and 'plant the seeds' of new ideas. You can also light candles as a way to welcome back The Sun and review your intentions for the year. As far as spells, it is the optimal time for fire spells, candle magic and fire scrying. It's also encouraged to do spells for creativity during this time, as well as protection and purifying spells.

I hope you all have a wonderful Imbolc and are as excited for the return of Spring as I am! This year for Imbolc, I'll be doing some fire scrying and clearing out my spaces around the house. What are you plans for the sabbat?
