Green Witch's Grounding Meditation

Hello friends,

There's been some major shifts in energy lately and I can't be the only one feeling that. Imbolc just passed a few weeks ago and we inch closer to spring with every passing day. As we come out of the hibernation of the winter months into the chaotic bliss that is spring and summer, it can some times feel like a whirlwind. There are so many events coming up this summer, and I'm in crunch mode at the moment. During these times, I find it helpful to meditate and ground myself spiritually. Those of you that know me personally, know that I am a big tree hugger...I'm a hippie and damn proud of it. I love the earth so much with every fiber of my being.

So with that love, I use this energy to find balance in times of transition and chaos. I would like to share with you today my favorite grounding meditation. I use this meditation before major rituals, and during every day situations that call for a moment to reset. If you have a connection to the forests, like I do, this meditation will be a welcome comfort. Let's get started!

To begin, find a quiet and comfortable setting that you can relax in. This can be in your home, a quiet spot at work, in the woods or any where you can find a few moments to be silent in. You can either sit in a chair or on the ground, both work just as well; as long as you can make contact with some sort of ground. This meditation is all about visualization. Sit comfortably, in a way that you can be still for an extended period of time.

Sit comfortably and close your eyes. We begin with visualizing the energy in our body starting around your heart. Gather your energy and visualize it swirling around your heart chakra,  Let it build up to consume the majority of your chest, once it's large enough, allow your energy to start flowing down your body. Let it go to your belly, to your bottom (root chakra), to your thighs, to your knees, to your ankles, and down through your toes and into the earth. Once you've visualized your energy reaching the ground, let it go further into down into the earth and allow your energy to turn into roots reaching deeper and deeper into the soil.

You can allow your roots to grow as deeply down into as you would like, even allowing them to go as far to the center of the earth. Once your roots have reached a space in the soil that you feel comfortable with, sit with the energy of the Earth for a moment and soak in her warmth and glory. When you feel like you've spent enough time with the energy of the Earth, gather your energy from your roots and follow them back up slowly through the layers of the soil and back into your body. Starting with your toes, slowly regain the energy from your roots through your feet, back up to your ankles, to  knees, to your thighs, to your root chakra, to your belly, to your heart, through your shoulders and arms, through your neck (throat chakra), in through your mouth, nose, eyes, and up through the top of your head. As your raise your energy up from your roots, and through your body, visualize yourself turning into a tree and the energy bursting from the top of your head (crown chakra) and growing large, bushy branches with the greenest leaves you've ever seen. Sway with the breeze and dance in the golden sunshine with your brand new leaves and branches and soak in the brilliant yellow light the sun gifts us.

When you're ready, you can bring your energy back down from your branches and back into your body. Allow yourself to sit with your eyes still closed and wade in the comfort from your meditation. Once you feel ready and comfortable you can open your eyes, and reconnect to this reality. Give yourself a moment to sit in the energy and move your limbs around slowly, as it may feel heavy when you first start moving again. Make sure you do this meditation slowly and with purpose. Nature takes her time with every thing, she doesn't rush her way through things. As you do this practice, do it with love and a feeling of appreciation for the Earth with every breath.

I hope this little meditation bring you comfort and some stable grounding. This is definitely my favorite way to ground myself, and I usually do this before every major spell or ritual, just to connect to the Earth as much as I can. You can use this practice for any time that you feel that you need to ground yourself or just reconnect to nature.

Blessings & Light, my friends
